Checkups and cleanings, with digital X-rays and an oral cancer screening to catch problems early. Even a small filling is done with how it looks in mind.
What general dentistry includes
General dentistry is the everyday care that keeps your teeth and gums healthy: checkups and cleanings, X-rays, fillings, care for your gums, and finding problems while they’re small. It’s the care most people need every year, and it’s how a problem gets caught while it’s still small and easy to fix.
At Pearl that means cleanings and exams with an oral cancer screening and digital X-rays when they’re due, tooth-colored fillings, and care for gums that bleed, recede or feel tender.
“Even something as routine as a small filling is done with aesthetics in mind.”
Treatments in general dentistry
- Cleanings & examsA thorough cleaning and an unhurried exam, explained as we go, in a room that doesn’t feel like a dentist’s office.
- FillingsFillings shaded and shaped to match your own tooth, so the repair blends in, even on a tooth no one else will see.
- Gum careGum disease treated gently, and only as much as your gums need, with a clear look at what’s happening before anything is done.
- SealantsA quick, gentle way to protect your child’s back teeth from cavities, with nothing to numb and nothing to drill.
- Children’s dentistryEasy, unhurried visits for your children, with the same dentist as the rest of the family, in a room that doesn’t feel like a dentist’s office.
How often should you see a dentist?
Every six months for most adults, for a cleaning and an exam. People who’ve had gum disease, or who build up tartar quickly, often do better every three or four months.
If it’s been years, come in anyway, and we’ll start where you are. You’ll hear what’s healthy as well as what needs work, and most problems found now are simpler to treat than they would be in six months.
Even a filling should look natural
We approach everyday care the way we approach cosmetic work: a filling is shaped and shaded to match the tooth around it, and a cleaning ends with what’s healthy as well as what needs attention, explained before anything is booked.
Many of our patients are Lincoln Park neighbors and their families, and many came to us after years of putting the dentist off.
